The need for Depression Counseling

July 28th, 2009

Depression is one of most powerful human emotions. If you leave this emotion untreated, those suffering from it severly could be lead to something more serious.

Everyone has those moments when they feel unhappy. That is normal. But clinical depression is something much more than that.It is a disease. But you can treat it.

I would like to offer some advice and tips that I have gained from my experience as a therapist in San Diego.

So when does depression become clinical depression?

Firstly, a person might start to feel like everything is hopeless and sad. When a person feels as if there is no point to anything.Or life isn’t worth living. Which could lead to feelings or thoughts of suicide.

This can last for 2 weeks or more. When your depression is lasting that long, that is when you are moving to the state of clinical depression.

And it is when you start hitting that point, you need to see a therapist.Don’t hit that point and leave this condition untreated.Believe me, from my experience as a depression counselor I know.

So once you find yourself at that point, there are several things you have to do. Because some depression is caused by imbalances in your body or the chemistry in your brain, you may need to treat it medically.  You would treat it with antidepressant drugs.

Of course as a counselor, I prefer to treat it through depression counseling.A counselor helps a person start to get to the root of their depression and come to grips with it.

They can also try other forms of therapy like cognitive behavior therapy which addresses how you think. The goal is to turn those negative thoughts into positive ones by questioning them.

A counselor can also help with relaxation techniques. If stress is the cause of depression, a good way to combat that form of stress is through relaxation.

Most of all a depression counselor will be the most effective person to find out what is causing the depression.

They are good in finding out if there was something that happened recently that may cause this.  They can find out if it is caused by something that happened in the past.  Or they can find out if it is caused by something going on in your body.  Whether it is some physiological change.

Depression is a treatable condition. But when you don’t know what caused it, you will not be able to treat it.This where finding someone that is a good counselor or therapist will help tremendously.

Ways to pass a smog check

July 28th, 2009
Comments Off

In our time we live in, the car is practically a life necessity next to food and shelter. And the way the economy is currently, everyone wants to keep their cars a little longer.

Well when this happens and your car gets older, there are some things about your car’s maintenance you are going to have to become aware of.  I have learned them from owning a San Diego Smog Check shop

One of those things is when you have to go and get a smog test for your car. Until your car hits seven years old, most people don’t even think about it.

But be warned, if you do fail the smog check, what was supposed to be a small $50 smog check suddenly turns into a huge auto repair bill.

When you have to have your car pass the smog check so you can renew the registration, follow these bits of advice to ensure your car passes the smog check.

So before you visit a smog test San Diego only center follow these tips.

First, make every effort to ensure your vehicle is running right.  If you feel the vehicle is not running right, immediately take it to a auto repair shop and have them find out what is wrong. Then have it repaired before your smog check.

Second, an easy but necessary tip, take a drive.  Remember to pass the smog test, your vehicle needs to be efficient at burning fuel with as little smog emmissions as possible.Because when the car has not been propery warmed up, it will not have the proper combustion you need.If that does happen, you have a high chance of failing.Just drive it for a few miles, 10-15, and you will have it running as optimally as possible when you bring it in.

Third, start using fuel additives. This has to be done during the time you fill up your car with gas.  You just add it to the gas tank.  What this does is it helps lowers emmission levels by cleaning your car’s intake and exhaust paths.  This allows the fuel and air to flow freely.

Fourth, have your tires inflated to the proper pressure. This small trick will make your vehicle have more stability when driven and more accuracy when you have the smog test. This greatlly improves the emmission’s overall output because it helps the engine maintain a steady load.

Finally, have your oil changed.  If your engine oil needs to be changed and is contaminated, this could very well cause you to fail your smog test. Oils with contamination are high in hydrocarbons, and this will cause the car to fail the test.

Follow these simple tips and you will surely pass your smog test with flying colors.  Take it from my experience running a San Diego auto repair service shop.

Midwifery and Midwives Explained

July 28th, 2009
Comments Off

Labor and delivery; it brings joy but also pain for the woman.Obviously there is joy because of the newborn baby, but any woman will tell you, it was a source of unspeakable pain.

Well it is because of that pain that there are two schools of thought on how pregnancy and delivery should be carried about.  I am going to offer some perspective on one particular school of thought that I have gained first hand experience with by being a homebirth midwife San Diego.

There is the medical model for delivery which is associated with drugs to kill the pain, and sometimes cesarean to complete the delivery.

While there is another model, which though not widely accepted, for those who believe in it and have experience it consider it much safer and natural for the woman.

That model is the midwifery model as it is called. That is in obvious contrast with the usual medical model way of doing things.  Where the medical model relies heavily on medicine, hence “medical”, midwifery relies on the natural.Midwifery philosphy believes that pregnancy, labor, and delivery should happen as naturally as possible because it is a natural process.

This model is performed by a group called midwives. Midwives San Diego are generally woman, who attend the birth, often times at the mother’s home. This midwife would help the woman try to deliver the baby as naturally as possible without the use of drugs.

Contrary to most people’s opinion, when medicine is not used during labor, it allows the labor to proceed much faster without the use of drugs to slow the labor down.

The midwife is a professional with a regulatory board that certifies and licenses the individual.

Although usually not a nurse or doctor, a midwife can be a nurse as well.

Even though they are not a doctor or nurse, they do carry with them some medical equipment, such as resuscitation devices and suturing equipment.

So in regards to pregnancy and delivery this is what a midwife is and generally what midwifery is about.

Their goals are to let the labor and delivery happen as naturally possible. This reduced the need and use of a c-section.Does not subject you to hospital procedures that are invasive such as episiotomys.  Less medical management like breaking the water or using drugs to slow or speed up the pregnancy. And for the woman the best part of all is that labor and delivery usually happen quicker naturally.

Hopefully this was informative and helped you understand some of the benefits of midwifery and having a midwife there for your pregnancy.  At the very least, hopefully it gives you more options to explore.  Remember this is first hand knowledge from a San Diego midwife.

Denby Pottery Celebrates A Phenomenal 200 Years In Business

July 27th, 2009

The pottery and crockery manufacturer Denby celebrates its 200th anniversary this year.

Denby pottery is celebrating its 200th anniversary, a huge and impressive milestone in this age when many huge and established manufacturers are collapsing. The Denby tableware range in that time has become one of the most loved brands of fine crockery.

All Denby tableware products have been lovingly crafted for eating, serving and cooking food with.

All Denby tableware is suitable for the microwave, freezer and dishwasher. It is claimed that all Denby pottery passes through 25 hands before reaching the customers and its ‘harder than steel’ range of over 5000 glazes means it is built to last.

Roger Panter of Panters, a stockist of Denby tableware and Denby crockery states: “Many of Denby’s famous ranges like Denby Regency Green have found their way into the homes of millions of people. Purchasers of Denby crockery love the timeless styling and quality of the workmanship.”

Denby pottery began in 1806, when clay was discovered in the town of Denby during the construction of a road linking the towns in industrial Derbyshire. A certain local entrepeneur, William Bourne, a clever local businessman recognised the qualities and potential of the material.

Actual Denby pottery production began in 1809 and the Bourne family prospered and very soon enjoyed an international reputation for its quality bottles and jars. These bottles held anything from ink, polish and medicines to preserves and even ginger beer. Salt glazing was a popular method of decorating stoneware in this period. Common salt was thrown onto the kiln fires when the embers were at their hottest. The vapours from the salt combine with the pots surface to produce a unique shiny brown surface.

In the late 19th century glass bottle manufacurer became much less expensive and soon replaced ceramic jars. Denby Pottery reacted by diversifying its range of kitchenware and developed richly coloured glazes which were to become Denby’s trade mark.

Much of Denby’s contemporary success is from to the considerable skill of craftsmen that first honed their craft 200 years ago. Denby pottery looks good to flourish for another 200 years.

Brake Dangers

July 25th, 2009

There are a lot of parts to your car you need to keep an eye on. In today’s times when autos have everything automatically, most of the times your cars maintenance gets neglected.  Believe me I have seen it all owning a San Diego auto repair shop.

After all cars that were considered economic cars like Hyundai’s, are now state of the art machines, it’s not that hard to think nothing goes wrong.

That is a big mistake.  There are still parts of your car that need to be maintained and paid attention to.  Most people take care of oil changes and things like that.  Although that is vital for the life of your automobile, most people forget their brakes.  Which is of extreme importance to their life and their family’s lives.

So let’s find out how to know when it is time to change your brakes when they have become unsafe.

The first symptom is when there is grinding or scratching you need to replace your brakes.  Usually this is an indicator that the metal plate that holds the brake pad is gone and now you have it rubbing against the rotor.  This is a bad sign and you have to go and replace your brakes immediately.

Second symptom is when your brakes make a loud screeching or a high pitch noise.  This is caused by a condition called glazed.  This happens when a person constantly does excessive braking causing the rotors to get too hot.  The rotors are then burned.

You fix this by going to a brake shop like my San Diego brake shop.

A third problem is vibrations.  When your rotors or drums are warped, when you are braking this will cause a vibration.   This occurs because of excessive heat and this makes them lose shape.  If this occurs, you have to replace your rotor.

A final problem to look at is when your brakes pull.  What happens is when you brake, your vehicle pulls in one direction.  This occurs when the brake calipers are not being applied evenly.  This is caused by a fluid leak.  To know which side is leaking, you need to have a professional look at it.  How you fix this is by replacing the caliper removing all the air out of the brakes.

These are the regular issues that happen with brakes.  When this does happen you need a shop that fixes brakes like we fix San Diego brakes.

When you consider your brakes are what prevents you from having accidents and running into things, this is a part of your car’s maintenance, you never want to neglect.
