Assange Law Enforcement Officials Report Splashed Across Pages Of The Guardian

December 29th, 2010

Julia Gillard says Assange broke no Australian laws

Julian Assange might temporarily be a free man, however his lawful team does not like the way coverage of his case is currently developing in the media. The British newspaper The Guardian seems to have figured that turnabout is fair play, so they published information on Julian Assange’s leaked out law enforcement officials report. The supposedly private report is said to include graphic sexual facts of Assange’s current assault case.

All about the Julian Assange law enforcement officials statement

While Assange’s camp considers releasing thousands of confidential intelligence cables as fair play within the quest for free info and transparency, his legal team doesn’t consider the alleged police statement leaked recently to be a case of turnabout. Assange has a Swedish lawyer named Bjorn Hurtig. He plans on filing a complaint formally because of the leaked out police report.

“It is with great concern that I hear about this because it puts Julian and his defense in a bad position,” Hurtig said.

Trial by press

Assange faces charges of sexual assault in Sweden currently even though he is currently released on £275,000 ($432,305) bail by celebrity backers such as Bianca Jagger, Michael Moor and Jemina Khan. The Assange police statement being leaked out has been characterized as a “smear campaign” meant to bring the 39-year-old journalist/provocateur before the judging eye of the press and circumvent due process. The sex allegations towards Assange within the Guardian were just a “brief summary” supposedly. His legal team claims that getting Assange convicted within the court of public opinion was the real purpose of it.

The conspiracy between Sweden and America

Julian Assange maintains that since the information surrounding his sexual assault says came to light, Sweden and the U.S. have been working together in a conspiracy to punish him for the release of various sensitive United States intelligence cables. Assange lawyer Mark Stephens is reportedly confident that the legal team can prevent Assange from being extradited and tried under United States treason laws. Because Assange is not a U.S. citizen – he’s Australian – such a turn of events would be a stretch. Furthermore, as Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard recently made the pronouncement that Assange had broken no Australian laws, it could be interesting to see how far the United States may go to trigger an international rift.
