Attorneys Declare Wei Innocent In Rutgers Suicide

November 25th, 2010

The Rutgers suicide has cast dark shadows across the pages of current-day news and sent the student body of the NJ institution of higher learning into mourning. And the chase proceeds. The Associated Press reports that Molly Wei’s lawful team insists upon their client’s innocence. Wei, together with fellow pupil Ravi, is alleged to have sent their classmate into a death spiral after broadcasting his private homosexual experience live to the Web. Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei are charged by prosecutors with invasion of privacy for allegedly filming the pupil without his knowledge or consent.

Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei could possibly be charged for a hate crime

The family of the deceased got a statement from Molly Wei’s attorneys. They state she is not guilty although they’re sorry for what has happened. According to the AP, Molly Wei’s attorney’s state she is “remarkable reputation is being unjustly tarnished by uninformed and incorrect assumptions.” They also claim that she is getting character attacks with this whole thing. The attorneys have yet to remark on the possibility of getting charged with a hate crime. Ravi and Wei haven’t said anything either.

The punishment for Wei and Ravi could possibly be five years in jail

If Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei are convicted of invasion of privacy, they might be looking at a five years in prison sentence. The AP spoke with the Middlesex County prosecutor’s office. They said a feasible hate crime charge is not certain yet. Prosecutor Bruce Kaplan delineated that his office needs to determine the facts and evaluate whether there’s an applicable law.

There is empathy between the hate

There has been lots of restraint and mildness from the Clementi family. This is while they have mourned the loss of their son. Last week, the Clementi family released a media statement. This said that they want to get all the legal stuff around the misfortune settled although they also know it is very important be civil and decent through the whole thing. “Our hope is that our family’s personal tragedy will serve as a call for empathy, empathy and human dignity,” writes the Clementi family.
