Chapel Preparing Koran Burning Warned By United States Of America Authorities

October 15th, 2010

Pastor Terry Jones, of the Dove World Outreach Center Church of Gainesville, Fla., is courting scandal with the plan for he and other church members to set fire to copies of the Koran. It has been subject of a lot of coverage. There has been response from the United States of America government, and warned the chapel never to do this. The Muslim world has currently condemned it. Greater risk to servicemen and women within the Armed Forces and civilians abroad is incredibly likely as a result, which is precisely why no less than General David Petraeus has advised the church not to have any burning of the Koran.

Dove World Outreach Center cautioned

The commander of United States forces in Afghanistan, Gen. David Petraeus, as outlined by the Christian Science Monitor, has requested the chapel to never partake in any Koran burning. He said that a group of American Christians fire the Koran will accomplish nothing positive. He insists it will only be doing the Taliban and Al Qaeda a favor, as it can be a recruiting tool in opposition to perceived American bigotry. He cautioned that American soldiers and civilians abroad can be put in greater risk. He also lamented that winning over hearts and minds in Afghanistan will be next to impossible. Other outrage at Muslims in the United States of America, for instance the Ground Zero mosque controversy, has only increased tension between the Islamic world and also the U.S.

Church to think it over

The Dove World Outreach Center Church is weighing the decision to go through with the burnings. The potential ramifications are on the mind of the members and Pastor Terry Jones, which is why, according to CNN, the members will think it over. Some pause was given to the members by the warning from Gen. David Petraeus, as the members intended to hold an “International Burn the Koran Day” on Sept. 11 of this year. The group claims that all of Islam was never the target of the demonstration. Instead, the aim was to demonstrate in opposition to radical elements of the Muslim world.

This may do no good

Though the pastor and also the church he ministers to have the right to protest no matter what they wish and hold any views they wish, General Petraeus is absolutely correct. This protest, should it be carried out, can be a propaganda victory for extremists.
