David Rogers Big Bugs Coming To Phoenix, AZ

November 25th, 2011

For all you nature lovers out there, the Desert Botanical Garden will be having a number of special events in the coming weeks. Spread over 145 acres inside Papago Park, Phoenix, this beautiful Botanical Garden brings to life a lot of wonders of the desert, including wildflowers, herbs, cacti along with succulents from all around the globe, with special focus on plant life from the southwestern United States. The Sonoran Desert Nature Loop Trail is especially intriguing to discover because it demonstrates how vegetation in the area had been used for housing, medicine and food.

Visitors are asked to take a glance at amazing predators, pollinators and helpful critters scattered throughout the garden’s desert trails starting September 12. The outstanding display presenting David Rogers’ Big Bugs sculptures will feature 11 humongous insects, each unique in their own way in terms of material, shape, color and texture. Weighing from 300 to 1,200 pounds and ranging from seven feet to 25 feet long, the terrific critters will be hard to miss! The self-taught artist makes his amazing bug sculptures using various combinations of whole trees located standing or fallen dead, cut green saplings selectively harvested from the willow family, dry limbs, and other forest materials.

A number of themed events, sessions and talks surrounding the Big Bugs frenzy are slated to happen in the Garden over the coming fall such as the Moonlight Masquerade, the Big Bug Movie Nights or Get Back: A tribute to the Beatles concert.

If you’re looking for a more typical activity, take a look out for the newly refurbished AMC movie theater at 24th Street and Camelback Road, slated for opening on September 7. The luxurious makeover has kept the theatre in the Esplanade closed down for the past several months. Among a number of other improvements, the new Cineplex will provide you with larger seats, reserved seating, and service at the push of a button at its Fork and Screen and Cinema Suites auditoriums. In-theater casual dining is going to be available, comprising lots of food and drinks which will make the entertainment experience complete.
