Eco-friendly Alternatives To Plastic Shower Curtains

August 9th, 2009

In recent years people have started realising the importance of saving the environment any way they can. With that in mind, many house owners have started incorporating the “green” movement in their homes. It goes without saying then that shower curtains even your lovely mickey shower curtain hooks and curtain, especially the plastic types, can be changed as well. Take a few minutes to read about some of the recommendations you can consider.

The terrible thing about plastic shower curtains is that they tend to emit some not so ozone friendly gassing. They are even worse when they are new. Here are some few thought to help deal with this.

You can buy a hemp shower curtain, which is especially good for a very dry climate. The reason why I favour it in drier areas is that it takes quite sometime to dry.

Wet curtains for the shower are a breeding ground for mold and mildew and therefore calls for a regular wash. The more it is washed the quicker it wears out so you need to realize the opportunity cost here . You can find this one selling at about $90.

Another alternative is to find those made from cloth. You can easily find a nylon one that dries quickly and machine washable. You can buy yourself a nice fabric at $20, which comes with a very tight weave and repels water perfectly fine. This is a good alternative to Hemp because it dries better and does not build up mold or soap scum. When buying you have an options like paisley shower curtains  or simply find online companies that sell red shower curtains of your choice. While you are making your choices just make sure that it still enhances the look and feel of  your bathroom.

I said I hate plastic, yes, but I will not withhold the truth and not tell you that there are a few green curtains that you can buy – if you must stick with plastic.
