Making Biodiesel Fuel: Easier And Less Costly Than You Might Think!

July 14th, 2009

Do you cringe every time you have to fill up a tank of gas? You could save thousands of dollars a year by making biodiesel yourself using used cooking oil. Yep! You can create your own biodiesel fuel with everyday vegetable oil.

Not only are there the financial perks of making your own fuel, but there are also more significant environmental perks. Vehicles running on biodiesel emit less harmful pollutants into the air, not to mention the fact that you’re re-using cooking oil which would normally end up being taken to the dump.

Your first step to making biodiesel is to stock up on vegetable oil. It is unlike you and your family will produce enough for your needs, but popping along to your local fast food outlet may pay dividends, as they have to pay for its disposal. What could be better than offering to take if off their hands for free? Hey! They may even pay you to take it, if you get your sales patter practiced! Finding a biodiesel machine is the next step to fuel production.

Whilst getting the raw ingredients to make biodiesel fuel is simple, producing it is not as hard as you may think either. The easiest way is to work with someone already producing their own. Failing that however, there are many places where you can get step by step guides and kits you can buy to lead you every step of the way. There are a huge assortment of biodiesel processors available online.

Obviously biodiesel fuel production will be an easier process if you already have a vehicle with a diesel engine. If you don’t, you’ll need to check with your car’s manufacturer to see if conversion to diesel is possible with that make/model. Once you have a vehicle safe to run diesel fuel, you’ll need to purchase the biodiesel kit (or work with someone who already owns one) to convert the oil to a fuel save to use in a diesel vehicle.

After you buy a fuel processor and get it set up, it’s time to start brewin’ your fuel! Do be sure to take your time and carefully read all instructions. Chemicals and high temperatures are used to make biodiesel fuel, so you need to be sure of what you are doing.
