National Aeronautics And Space Administration Groups With DARPA For Hundred Year Starship

November 21st, 2010

A recent joint project between NASA and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, or Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, has been uncovered. The idea is to create a space craft that can haul sufficient crew and cargo to Mars. It’s called the Hundred Year Starship, however the journey would be a bit different from the moon landings. The catch is the individuals on this mission won’t come back.

National Aeronautics and Space Administration and DARPA will see Mars soon

NASA and Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency are working together on a project which was announced at the Long Conversation conference in San Francisco by NASA Ames Research Center’s Pete Worden. The two government agencies have asked for help on the project called the 100 Year Starship, the Telegraph reports. The world’s billionaires are being solicited for donations, including Larry Page, co-founder of Google. An initial design could possibly be accessible next year. The project is a pretty large and hard one, as opposed to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency Challenge. The DARPA Challenge had been a race of self-driving vehicles for them to test. Getting astronauts and cargo to Mars is the challenge being worked on with the project. This project is different than the international Space Station and Apollo 11. The astronauts will not be coming back from Mars.

1 way admission

There’s a huge distance between Earth and other planets. This makes it hard to just create a ferry between planets. Nine months is needed to get all the way to Mars. Anyone who lands there may have to be self enough. Only $1 million is in the budget for the project. That’s bad because it will probably cost around $10 billion, says NASA . Four pounds of fuel are needed for each and every one pound of equipment being moved into space, accounts Fox News. It is really hard to make it possible to get to Mars. Finding a way to come back will be near impossible.

Mars being the place to Colonize

Mars is the next good undertaking in space exploration, and colonizing other planets is perhaps next on the list. A permanent colony on Mars with numerous astronauts would be the plan. The Mars lifestyle is what they’ll determine. There has to be some way to do it. Our planet is going to die 1 day. When the planet dies, mankind will too. This is unless there is another way to live someplace else.
