State Of The Union Address To Focus On Competitiveness

March 20th, 2011

Obama is going to Congress to give the annual State of the Union address. The primary points are likely to be about the economy, especially job creation and competition in international trade. He may also be discussing government spending policy. If all goes well the government might not need installment loans to survive.

Seeing the next State of the Union address from the President

President Barack Obama is going to give the second State of the Union address of his presidency on Tuesday, January 25. ABC reports that there’s a new theme for this year as it is one of the biggest political events of the year. The parties will not be put into separate wings this year as it would traditionally have been set up for seating. Instead, there will be a mix in the seating all around of Democrats and Republicans. The idea came from Senator Tom Udall (D-Colo.) who thought it would be nice if members of Congress would be willing to get “dates” to show bipartisan solidarity after Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was shot within the head in Tucson. The dates will really just be members asking other members of the opposite party, and sex often times, to sit with them.

Addressing ‘competitiveness’ and economic climate

The focus of the 2011 State of the Union address is going to be the economic climate. The Obama presidency has had to focus on that issue more than anything else. The Washington Post reports that Obama has a concentrate on education, job creation and initiatives that make the United State international trade competiveness better. In previous speeches, Obama has stressed the U.S. needs to become an international powerhouse economically. It is anticipated that this annual address to congress will continue this idea. It is possible that fiscal policy and gun control will even be discussed.

There can be overseas relations discussed as well

Some discussion of overseas policy is also to likely be included, as nearly all troops are likely to be withdrawn from Iraq by the end of the year and from Afghanistan by the end of 2014. There will be lots of people broadcasting the State of the Union. Most networks and news channels will. You will find typically lots of viewer ratings for State of the Union addresses.
