In this economy to save money we need to use every possible way.It does not take a rocket scientist to notice that a lot of Americans are suffering during this economy.  But instead of complaining about everything, we can find ways to save money.

So I would like to offer some perspective from a San Diego auto repair owner. Now you may be thinking that I would be biased but listen to me first. After your reading of this you are going to see that it is sensible and money will be saved.

One of the ways we can save money is to keep our cars longer. In the heyday of this decade when the economy seemed to be so good people traded in cars left and right. They would just trade their cars as soon as it was too old.  So in reality most people never even considered maintaining a car.

Well in the shape the economy is in, that is not a luxury for most people now.  Most people can’t afford to just go out and get a new car.People are forced to hang on to their old ones. What it means is you will have to make an effort to maintain their cars.

One of the key maintenance items is making sure your car can pass a smog test.Once you have an older car it will be a required law.  If you don’t pass a smog test, it can turn into expensive repairs.  I know this first hand running my smog test San Diego shop.

There are some things you are able to do to help make certain you pass the test. You must keep you car tuned up always.  You can make sure to change the oil and oil filter. You can check to see that the muffler works good with no problems.

This is what causes you to lose money.  If you fail the smog test you could be in for a lot of money in repairs. So by ensuring that you follow these maintenance tips you will be able to save money.  By taking the time to maintain it now you won’t have to spend big on repairs later.

Do not forget to do brake maintenance as well.  With my experience with our San Diego brake shop this is important as well. By ensuring that the brakes pads you have aren’t wworn down you can make your disc brakes last longer.  Not maintaining it can lead to expensive repairs.  Follow this and you will save money.

Brake Maintenance is Important

One of the things we take for granted in this world is driving a car.It has become almost like a routine and a mindless activity for some people. You see people everywhere taking on the phone, reading, even doing makeup, etc. while driving.

But if you really step back and think about it, everytime your drive a car, your life is on the line.Whether it is your fault or someone else’s, accidents happen.

One cause of accidents, although seldom does it happen, is brakes failing.Your brakes qualifies as one of the critical parts of your vehicle.Unfortunately, if it’s out of sight it is out of mind.  I have seen this firsthand with my San Diego brakes shop.

Your brakes definitely qualifies as out of sight.  But it is one part of your car that you need to keep regular maintenance on.  Whether you do it yourself, or hire a San Diego auto repair shop, you have to maintain it.After all, the safety of your life and maybe your family’s life could depend on it.

With that being the case, brake maintenance is relatively easy. You can do one of two things, you can take it to a brake repair shop or you can learn how to maintain it yourself.

Either way, the two things to look at for brake maintenance is brake fluid level and brake pad condition.  If you are diligent in maintaining these two points, you will keep your brakes safe.

When you go to check the brake fluid level, all you are going to have to do is check the fluid reservoir level. It is more often than not marked with a ‘min’ line and a ‘max line’.  Make sure it isn’t below the ‘min’ line and you should have no problems.

Also be sure that you see that the brake fluid is yellow in color and clear. If it is not, the brake fluid will need to be flushed and replaced with a new fluid.

Brake fluids maintenance are the easy part. The hard part of this will be the brake pads.  For this, more often than not you will need a brakes repair company like my San Diego brake shop.

Usually the brake pads tell you they need to be replaced when you hear some screeching sounds when you are braking.

If so, get them checked and if need be, replaced as soon as you can. Brake pads that are worn is hard to control or stop.

With your safety and any passengers safety on the line, this is a no brainer. Get it checked and if need be, get your brakes fixed.

Following these 2 maintenance steps will keep your car safe for every driving occasion.

Ways to pass a smog check

In our time we live in, the car is practically a life necessity next to food and shelter. And the way the economy is currently, everyone wants to keep their cars a little longer.

Well when this happens and your car gets older, there are some things about your car’s maintenance you are going to have to become aware of.  I have learned them from owning a San Diego Smog Check shop

One of those things is when you have to go and get a smog test for your car. Until your car hits seven years old, most people don’t even think about it.

But be warned, if you do fail the smog check, what was supposed to be a small $50 smog check suddenly turns into a huge auto repair bill.

When you have to have your car pass the smog check so you can renew the registration, follow these bits of advice to ensure your car passes the smog check.

So before you visit a smog test San Diego only center follow these tips.

First, make every effort to ensure your vehicle is running right.  If you feel the vehicle is not running right, immediately take it to a auto repair shop and have them find out what is wrong. Then have it repaired before your smog check.

Second, an easy but necessary tip, take a drive.  Remember to pass the smog test, your vehicle needs to be efficient at burning fuel with as little smog emmissions as possible.Because when the car has not been propery warmed up, it will not have the proper combustion you need.If that does happen, you have a high chance of failing.Just drive it for a few miles, 10-15, and you will have it running as optimally as possible when you bring it in.

Third, start using fuel additives. This has to be done during the time you fill up your car with gas.  You just add it to the gas tank.  What this does is it helps lowers emmission levels by cleaning your car’s intake and exhaust paths.  This allows the fuel and air to flow freely.

Fourth, have your tires inflated to the proper pressure. This small trick will make your vehicle have more stability when driven and more accuracy when you have the smog test. This greatlly improves the emmission’s overall output because it helps the engine maintain a steady load.

Finally, have your oil changed.  If your engine oil needs to be changed and is contaminated, this could very well cause you to fail your smog test. Oils with contamination are high in hydrocarbons, and this will cause the car to fail the test.

Follow these simple tips and you will surely pass your smog test with flying colors.  Take it from my experience running a San Diego auto repair service shop.

Brake Dangers

There are a lot of parts to your car you need to keep an eye on. In today’s times when autos have everything automatically, most of the times your cars maintenance gets neglected.  Believe me I have seen it all owning a San Diego auto repair shop.

After all cars that were considered economic cars like Hyundai’s, are now state of the art machines, it’s not that hard to think nothing goes wrong.

That is a big mistake.  There are still parts of your car that need to be maintained and paid attention to.  Most people take care of oil changes and things like that.  Although that is vital for the life of your automobile, most people forget their brakes.  Which is of extreme importance to their life and their family’s lives.

So let’s find out how to know when it is time to change your brakes when they have become unsafe.

The first symptom is when there is grinding or scratching you need to replace your brakes.  Usually this is an indicator that the metal plate that holds the brake pad is gone and now you have it rubbing against the rotor.  This is a bad sign and you have to go and replace your brakes immediately.

Second symptom is when your brakes make a loud screeching or a high pitch noise.  This is caused by a condition called glazed.  This happens when a person constantly does excessive braking causing the rotors to get too hot.  The rotors are then burned.

You fix this by going to a brake shop like my San Diego brake shop.

A third problem is vibrations.  When your rotors or drums are warped, when you are braking this will cause a vibration.   This occurs because of excessive heat and this makes them lose shape.  If this occurs, you have to replace your rotor.

A final problem to look at is when your brakes pull.  What happens is when you brake, your vehicle pulls in one direction.  This occurs when the brake calipers are not being applied evenly.  This is caused by a fluid leak.  To know which side is leaking, you need to have a professional look at it.  How you fix this is by replacing the caliper removing all the air out of the brakes.

These are the regular issues that happen with brakes.  When this does happen you need a shop that fixes brakes like we fix San Diego brakes.

When you consider your brakes are what prevents you from having accidents and running into things, this is a part of your car’s maintenance, you never want to neglect.
