Buy Your Car Through a Private Sale

August 31st, 2009

Lots of people are now in a very difficult situation due to the current economic climate.  For those who are looking for a new car, it might be a perfect time to buy .  Also, other people may be forced to sell their second car for these exact same reasons and they’ll be wanting to do this quickly meaning the price will be ideal for a buyer.

Sellers trying to get shot of their car quickly will be more willing to drop their price to make this happen.  Buyers will be able to look at all the classified ads and more often than not will be amazed at the available deals.  Because sellers find it just as hard to sell their cars as the used car dealers do, this is great news for the buyers.

Buyers have to make sure that they check out the car they intend to but thoroughly before committing to the purchase.  There will be no warranty or return and you are buying the car with the understanding that once you pay, the problems are yours.  If there is a chance of taking the car out on a test drive, prospective owners should definitely take this opportunity.  Obviously sellers will be wary of letting the prospective new owners take the car out on their own, for fear of theft, so they usually elect to accompany the new buyer on the test drive.  Or you can leave your driver’s license with them so that they know you are coming back.  Take the car out for as long of a test drive as you are comfortable with.  This way they will be able to determine how the car drives over a longer period.

Bring along a mechanic or a friend to check out the car with you. Look in the bonnet and make sure to ask the owner if there were any problems with the car.  Normally the seller will tell you if there have been any recent problems with the car.

Is the Scrappage Scheme Making Money

July 23rd, 2009

Over the last few months the government has indicated they will help the car industry out of recession, this would work like so, if your car is over a decade old then you will be given £2000 to go towards a new one. So a few months on, has the scheme been working? And is it good news for customers and dealers? Let us take a quick glance.

A majority of people mainly car dealers have indicated that they are not satisfied with the scheme. They have stated that there is a lot of work involved in the process that makes a dealers life a hell, they go on to say that although it may be good for the actual manufacturers and almost a million jobs, dealers are having a very hard time with it all.

One dealer actually said that they were making almost 50% less profit.

But on the other hand customers are going to be getting a great deal more then they used too, enquires are already up and people that were not thinking about getting a new car for a few years are now eagerly visiting garages in hope of getting a great deal.

So in terms of the scrappage scheme working to push the economy it is working great and saving jobs in the process, but for the administrators and dealers it is causing them a huge amount of more work then they would usually have to do. As for the consumer, a vast majority of folk could end up getting a bargain.

Race to the right ferry

The future of Formula 1 racing in the UK looks to be increasingly bleak.

Donington, the intended venue for 2010’s UK Formula 1 race, is in economic difficulty – the most news-worthy last month when the track’s owner began legal proceedings, against the race promoter, for unpaid rent of more than £2 million.

The race at Donington will only go ahead if the substantial £100 million refurbishment of the course is completed by March 2010, the race’s prospects certainly seem in jeopardy.

F1 CEO, Bernie Ecclestone, has said on various occasions that if the Donington race circuit is not finished, the race will go elsewhere. And Bernie has made it clear that he means another country, not a different UK-based course.

That would bring an end to the Great British Grand Prix which, along with the Italian stage, is the longest running Grand Prix stage.

Race enthusiasts can still watch the British Touring Car Championship, MotoGP and A1GP, race fans may have to look further afield for a big event steeped in history.

The Le Mans endurance race ticks that box, with an with a relaxed mood and over 80 years of racing predigree. The race already attracts thousands of British race fans every year to watch racing throughout the day and night.

Of course the only problem is that the race is in France. However, travelling is quick and easy, with various Plymouth channel ferries making the trip every day.

So despite the disappointment of the Great British Grand Prix apparently disappearing into the history books after 2009, there are many events to keep race fans entertained.

For those looking to the past the UK is famous for classic, veteran and heritage shows across the country in England, Scotland and Wales so there is no shortage or cars to view although not moving as fast as F1
