What makes one successful and one fail in sports

Sports and succeeding in it is a funny thing.  You can have a superb athlete who can’t find success.Then you might have someone who is average at best yet becomes super successful.At first glance you can’t seem to explain it.  But upon a closer look you see the main reason for success and failure has been the mind.  But why is that?  In this article we shall take a look into that.

So how come the mind is so important in sports?  As a San Diego sports psychology I have been priveleged to see first hand why this is so.First thing you have to realize, the stereotype that thinks of athletes as dumb is far from the truth.Athletes are really some of the smartest people around.And the ones that have the most success are the ones who have learned how to use their mind.

Funny thing a lot of athletes come in needing my anger managementcounseling practice.A lot of times they get this anger because they failed in sports.But what I have been able to do is help people to turn it around.The way to really help them is to show them how failure begins within the mind.  By learning how to use their mind effectively they can achieve tremendous success.It has proven itself over time many times.

Once an athlete becomes aware and understands how powerful the mind is, they can become successful.  Most of the time they can achieve tremendous success.  It is like most things in life.The mind is so important when it comes to taking action and getting results.I take notice of this not just with athletes but also see it in families.  The family therapist San Diego practice I run I have used some of the same principles to help families achieve success.Success in being able to deal with any family struggles that happen.In life as well as in sports the key to most things is your mind.

When is it time for depression counseling

In this life, a person can and will experience many joys and many times of happiness.But on the other side of that coin, what can occur as well is many heartbreaks and sadness.Obviously, emotions that you experience like joy doesn’t have to be addressed.  But negative emotions such as sadness or heartbreaks can
lead to depression. 

Well in this article I am going to share some advice I have learned through education and practice as a family counselor San Diego.

Simple and plain, depression is one of the toughest human emotions to deal with.  Once a person starts becoming depressed because of things that happen in life, it takes professional depression counseling to deal with it.

Now there are several types of depression.Severe types of depression could be some sort of clinical depression.Often times, through medication is going to be the only way to treat that.  This can be caused not necessarily all from circumstances.A chemical imbalance within the body of the person depressed can be the cause of it.

But if it is not a case of chemical imbalance but more of a depression due to circumstances, counseling could be the best route out of it.

The reasons for depression is going to different among people.What barely effects one person, can cause a severe case of depression in another.What makes it realy hard to handle someone with depression is because that person’s emotions are already real fragile.It is going to take counseling that is compassionate to be able to deal with it.

Not knowing how to address depression could be devasting.Extreme cases where suicide is a possibility.Or even depression being the root cause of a person not being able to function socially.

It is during times such as these that a depression counselor may have to be useed to deal with it.  It is a fine balance in determining if a person is experiencing just temporary depression or if it is a severe case. 

Talking with a person and seeing if it goes on for several weeks is a good indicator.If it does go on for several weeks, you are going to probably have to get professional help.

With the significance and how devastating a consequence a severe case of depression can lead to, you don’t want to leave that type of emotion untreated.

It can also happen to adolescents, and if that is the case you may want to seek some San Diego adolescent counseling.

The need for Depression Counseling

Depression is one of most powerful human emotions.If you leave this emotion untreated, those suffering from it severly could be lead to something more serious.

Everyone has those moments when they feel unhappy.That is normal. But clinical depression is something much more than that.It is a disease.But you can treat it.

I would like to offer some advice and tips that I have gained from my experience as a therapist in San Diego.

So when does depression become clinical depression?

Firstly, a person might start to feel like everything is hopeless and sad.When a person feels as if there is no point to anything.Or life isn’t worth living. Which could lead to feelings or thoughts of suicide.

This can last for 2 weeks or more.When your depression is lasting that long, that is when you are moving to the state of clinical depression.

And it is when you start hitting that point, you need to see a therapist.Don’t hit that point and leave this condition untreated.Believe me, from my experience as a depression counselor I know.

So once you find yourself at that point, there are several things you have to do. Because some depression is caused by imbalances in your body or the chemistry in your brain, you may need to treat it medically.  You would treat it with antidepressant drugs.

Of course as a counselor, I prefer to treat it through depression counseling.A counselor helps a person start to get to the root of their depression and come to grips with it.

They can also try other forms of therapy like cognitive behavior therapy which addresses how you think.The goal is to turn those negative thoughts into positive ones by questioning them.

A counselor can also help with relaxation techniques.If stress is the cause of depression, a good way to combat that form of stress is through relaxation.

Most of all a depression counselor will be the most effective person to find out what is causing the depression.

They are good in finding out if there was something that happened recently that may cause this.  They can find out if it is caused by something that happened in the past.  Or they can find out if it is caused by something going on in your body.  Whether it is some physiological change.

Depression is a treatable condition.But when you don’t know what caused it, you will not be able to treat it.This where finding someone that is a good counselor or therapist will help tremendously.
