So Spain are the World Champions after beating the Dutch in extra time at the World Cup Final in South Africa. But the competition wasn’t all smiles for a lot of Spanish fans who’d made the trip over to SA, as around 600+ were unable to get to the Spain vs Germany after flights were delayed or cancelled altogether after heavy congestion at South Africa’s King Shaka airport.
According to reports, the congestion was down to an increase in private jets as stars like Leonardo DiCaprio, Paris Hilton, flew in to the airport, as well as FIFA officials, South Africa’s president Jocob Zuma and Spain’s King Juan Carlos.
The plans caryring the famous faces ignored directives to land at a different Durban airport, which they were directed to in order to free airport parking spots for normally scheduled flights.
Some fans had spent up to $1,300 for tickets to the World Cup Semi Final, only to find that they were unable to get to the stadium to watch the game. The South African airport management company ACSA (Airports Company South Africa), has now said it has put aside $52,000 to reimburse the passengers who were forced to miss games.
What’s not clear however is whether or not this amount is enough to compensate the passengers, as many have said that missing that game completely ruined their holiday.
Debbie, a Spanish fan who lives in England, had this to say
It’s not as if these flight are all we spent money on to see these games. We couldn’t afford the final so flew out just for the quarter and semi finals. Yeah they can pay us what we spent on the internal flight, but what about the hotel costs? Or the Manchester airport parking for the last fortnight? Or travel insurance? Or the price of the tickets, which we couldn’t use, or the fact we were stuck here with nothing to do and nowhere to go. It’s not fair that these famous people just get to do what they want.”

There are a number of things to think about when considering traveling to Africa. It does not matter which country you want to visit I’m sure your preferred mode of travel is air. There are now many airlines on the various routes and you have a wide range to choose from.
By making use of some tips and ideas that I will mention below you can get discounted airfares and flu cheaper. Firstly like I said before the industry is not dominated by the major airlines anymore, the smaller airlines have been a welcome relief for passengers and consumers as prices have drastically come down because of the increased competition.
The thing is you need to time the time of your visit. The prices of air tickets are not fixed and so you can never get any quotations for a particular airline. You might be able to get an estimate however. The reason for this is that the prices vary according to the day of the week and the time of the year.
Airfares for week day travel are always cheaper than fares for weekend travel. The reason is that the weekend period is said to be a peak period of travel where you have many people traveling between places. Since the seats on any flight are always limited the prices tend to be higher. The time of the year is another thing that affects airfares. Different airlines will have a different interpretation when it comes to what is peak season and what is not.
You will be able to get current airfares, information on available discounts and routes at any one of these:flights from durban to east london cape town to joburg cape town to bloemfontein flights
So it’s always a good idea to confirm rates with a particular airline before booking. You can make a booking inperson at the airline ticket office or book by telephone. However you will always get a discount by making an online booking. If a booking is made online the airline does not use any personnel, stationery and does not print anything so they save money. This information can be got from any tour operator or travel guide agency.
