2011s Most Famous UK News Headlines
Although the year 2011 is more than half over it has proven to be an exciting one for the UK. On a pleasurable note two major wedding events put the spotlight on both London and Scotland as well. The matrimonial ceremony of Prince William and Catherine Middleton left no disappointment to the world over as they witnessed the pomp and ceremony befitting the royal family. To extend the pleasure that a Royal Wedding can bring all it took was the marriage of Zara Phillips to Mike Tindall. Being the granddaughter of the Queen is all that it took to once again draw the attention of the wedding followers. Of course Mike Tindall being a avid Rugby athlete certainly helped to draw some additional attention.
The memories that were created by these two pleasurable Royal weddings was soon to be pushed to the background for many though as a result of the riots that erupted in some of the UK major cities during the month of August. It poses serious problems for UK officials who were in the midst of implementing some Police cutbacks to ease the financial burden on the country. These actions resulted in the need for some expertise from the USA by getting a street crime expert involved. His findings didn’t provide an easy solution however, as his opinion was that arresting those involved was not an end to the problem. There was a lot of negative feedback in respect to the way the Police handled the rioting situations and this has opened up more doors for trying to find a resolution. It would seem that the riots were as a result of the public opinion of the mishandling of a shooting incident that occurred. These circumstances are making it tough on the financial decisions that were being contemplated which involved cut backs in the police force.
The financial stability of the UK is not at it’s best and when unforeseen financial costs arise it only serves to put an additional strain on the budget. This was the case with the unusual amount of snow that the UK experienced during the winter of 2011. For countries that don’t experience a significant amount of snow it comes as quite a financial shock when it does. UK headlines were quick to point out that the UK was simply not equipped to deal with this type of snowfall and the news provided ample coverage of the precarious conditions that the Country was dealing with. It would be fair to assume that concerns are rising when consideration is being given to what kind of weather conditions will prevail in the latter part of 2011 as winter sets in once again.
With none of these problems such as the riots or adverse weather handling being resolved, it leaves many feeling uneasy as to what the end of 2011 has in store for the country. Although these are only three major issues that the UK are dealing with they are certainly not an exhaustive list of what the Country is having to cope with.
