Will Having a New President Change the United States?

Now that Barack Obama has occupied the White House for a while, it will be interesting to watch whether the surge of patriotism we saw will be anything more than a flash in the pan. The fact that we elected our first African American president was significant, but only over the long haul will we know whether that will be enough to garner peoples’ ongoing interest and support.

It would be nice if that were the case, because we’ve been torn asunder long enough. Take for example, the plight of U.S. veterans. Many were wounded in American wars and in some cases, they sometimes didn’t get the thanks they deserved when they came back to the U.S.. That is the reason I created some patriotic clip art that promotes the idea that we should pay tribute to veterans. This veterans clip art is just a small way we can all show our support. That support just might renew the spirit of veterans feeling disenchanted with their country’s response to their military service. But we need to do more than just send yearly vintage patriotic greeting cards. The country’s support of them has to be constant. As fellow Americans, we owe it to them. If we don’t extend that respect toward them; who will?

Yet, it’s not just veterans who would benefit from the unification of our country. I would love to see people saluting American flag images when on parade, because they genuinely believe in what the flag stands for. Hopefully, that outpouring of feeling will move us all a little closer to lasting peace. At this moment, it’s up in the air as to whether this unification will come to be. There are already plenty of people who don’t like the changes the new president wants to put in place. But that’s just the way American politics works. Checks and balances can actually help keep the process balanced. We hope so anyway. Americans will just have to see what happens.
