What does a midwife do for pregnancy

November 2nd, 2009

If a woman gets pregnant there would be a lot of important decisins that should be decided upon immediately. She needs to go see and choose a doctor.  More than likely they need to choose a hospital.  And there a few other things.  What most women don’t realize they can also choose a natural delivery. That is when mothers do not want drugs to be administered on them during the delivery itself. With more and more people concerned with health this is a gaining popularity.A profession that really helps in this area is called midwifery.

What is really the use of midwifery? It is defined as the practice of assisting women to give birth naturally. Of course there a lot more defintions. But this is the simplest definition.  As a San Diego licensed midwife that is the job which is to help a woman attempt to deliver naturally. There can be a lot of benefits from this. The use of no drugs is, of course, the main benefit. And without using drugs the delivery goes faster.Because drugs administered to the mother can actually slow down the delivery itself.

These days, women are not only choosing to deliver their babies the natural way but they also choose to deliver their babies at their own homes. They are choosing their homes over hospitals to give birth to their babies.  This seems a lot more different then people are used to.But it has lot of benefits in store for the babies and the mothers.  As a midwives San Diego I have been able to see these benefits firsthand. One benefit that can be gained is the privacy of the place that will be used as the delivery room.Intrusive medical procedures are less needed also because the way of giving birth is the natural way.

There will definitely be objections and sceptics will not stop looking for something to criticize. Some are doubtful about the safety of ths method.  But if it is a low risk pregnancy this shouldn’t be a big factor. But of course it will not be recommended to a mother whose pregnancy is a high-risk one.  In my San Diego midwife practice I always advise my clients to go with the normal delivery in a hospital if it is high risk.So that if anything happens it can be immediately attended to by a doctor.
